Bienvenidos / Benvingut

Whether it is Jávea (Castellano) or Xàbia (Valenciano), the welcome will be just the same in this delightful Spanish port resort on the Mediterranean.

I hope that this collection of photos will give you some idea of the stunning beauty of the natural environment of this most picturesque town of the northern Costa Blanca, the character and humour of the Javienses/Xabienses, and the diversity of everyday life throughout a glorious year - both traditional and modern.

Away from the shoreline of sandy beaches and secluded coves the people that we meet in the quiet streets and alleyways of the historical old town nestled under the eye of the Montgo welcome the stranger with a friendly Hola, a welcome as warm as the heat that has been stored in the ancient stone walls for centuries. We may come to this town as strangers but we soon become friends.

“Jávea Sublime”

The renowned Valencian painter Joaquín Sorolla first discovered Jávea in 1896 and wrote:

“Jávea sublime, inmensa, lo mejor que conozco para pintar. Supera a todo.”
“Jávea sublime, immense, the best I know to paint. It beats everything.”

He returned many times often accompanied by family or friends to capture in oils local scenes of fishing and the harvesting of grapes but he was especially captivated by the sunlight and how it played on the seas around the twin headlands of the bay. It is Sorolla’s love of family, the sea and sunlight that remains at the heart of all that is best about Jávea today.

Jávea is not only a great summer destination but also an attractive winter resort due to it excellent location. This is where the sun rises on Spain and the World Health Organisation has declared that the area benefits from a year long temperate climate that is very beneficial to health, especially in the winter. Winter is thankfully brief and a major reason why so many people from the colder climates of Europe make this their permanent home.

Having worked within the real estate industry in Jávea for twenty years I am very happy to present this portfolio of images that I think best sums up this unique place, the people, the culture, the traditions and the landscape. If you are inspired to visit and are perhaps thinking of buying your own dream property or of renting for the season please look at our real estate portal www.altavillas.com where you can find information about sales, long term rentals and our property management service caring for your homes during your absence or throughout the letting season.
